Inspiration

"Playscape is a step in the right direction and follows the inspiration of Freiburg in Germany where they have not been installing ‘the sterile flat fields of brightly coloured fixed equipment so common in the UK’ but ‘rich, naturalistic play spaces full of mounds, logs, fallen trees, bushes, flowers, boulders and other natural features’.

 

Few of Freiburg's playgrounds are fenced; instead low timber walls and thoughtful design are used to signal boundaries.

 

The play spaces make minimal use of safety surfacing, and tend to use pea gravel, sand or bark. They are regularly inspected and meet the same European Union safety standards that apply in the UK.”
